In
2002 there was still two wars in Afghanistan. The official one, the American
led campaign against the remaining al-Qaida and Taliban fighters, goes on
in the mountains and deserts along the border with Pakistan. It does not seem
to be very successful. The second war is an internal war between local warlords
in the north and east of the country. The two conflicts could melt together
into each other creating big problems to the Americans and the British with
the guerrillas taking full advantage of their knowledge of the land.
